New Jersey made big news for layoffs and cutbacks in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries in 2024 due to tech disruption. Nevertheless, the state continues to land new projects in the sectors as companies capitalize on its talent pool. PitchBook also ranked the state third in the country for VC investment in the first half of 2024. The state landed nearly $10 billion in VC investment in the first six months of 2024, slightly behind New York but ahead of Massachusetts. Several factors are fueling the influx of VC money, including a new AI Hub at Princeton University and NJ Fast, a new fintech accelerator at the Stevens Institute for Technology in Hoboken. HAX Accelerator, a startup development program for pre-seed hard tech companies with offices worldwide, also opened its U.S. headquarters in Newark.
