{"id":287832,"date":"2023-02-23T12:33:05","date_gmt":"2023-02-23T17:33:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chiefexecutive.net\/?p=287832"},"modified":"2025-03-28T14:05:03","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T18:05:03","slug":"ceo-survey-expect-salary-increases-to-stall-in-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chiefexecutive.net\/ceo-survey-expect-salary-increases-to-stall-in-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"CEO Survey: Expect Salary Increases To Stall In 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"287832\" class=\"elementor elementor-287832\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b4b414c e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"b4b414c\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f622de3 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"f622de3\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f0bffb4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f0bffb4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span class=\"normaltextrun\">For the last few years, wage growth has been on a tear, with average pay in the U.S. up <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/oact\/cola\/awidevelop.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">8.9 percent in 2021<\/span><\/a><span class=\"normaltextrun\"> alone\u2014the fastest growth since the early-80s, according to the Social Security Administration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><div><p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">But now, as the economy slows, that trend is likely to end\u2014fast\u2014especially among executives and middle managers, according to our latest survey of American CEOs. <\/span><\/p><\/div><div><p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">A recent poll of 333 CEOs in the U.S., conducted January 10-12 by <i>Chief Executive<\/i>, finds pay increases among almost every class of worker are likely to slow dramatically in 2023, an abrupt U-turn from recent trends.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"eop\">C<\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">ompared to 2022, smaller proportions of workers in all seniority levels are projected to see salary increases of 5 percent or more, with companies instead opting to increase salaries at more modest rates, if at all.<\/span><\/p><\/div><div><p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">According to our research, some 52 percent of middle managers saw a salary increase of at least 5 percent in 2022. That proportion is expected to drop to just 26 percent this year, according to CEOs we surveyed. <\/span><\/p><\/div><div><p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Only 20 percent of other senior executives are projected to see a 5 percent or more raise to their salary in 2023, down sharply from the 34 percent who got a raise of that size last year. For front-line and back-office employees, 57 percent saw raises of 5 percent or more in 2022. It includes pay information from more than 1,800 U.S. companies. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/chiefexecutive.net\/compensationreport\/\">Learn more about our compensation benchmarking research &gt;\u00a0<\/a><\/p><\/div><div><p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"eop\">\u00a0<\/span>According to our surveys, two-thirds of senior executives saw a salary increase in 2022, and the proportion for middle managers and front-line workers is even higher, at 88 and 93 percent, respectively.
